The department of Journalism and Mass Communication organized a one-day workshop on Film Viewing and Critical Appreciation. The workshop was conducted by Dr. Garima Srivastava, Head of the department. During the first session of the workshop the movie "Guide" was screened and in the second session discussion regarding the subject of the film, scripting of the film, cinematography of the film was done. The camera angles and the different scenes of the movie was discussed in detail. The students were made aware regarding the role of editor and music director in film making.

Film Viewing and Critical Appreciation is a good career option too and it also develops one’s critical thinking. The workshop proved beneficial for students as they developed a greater insight about film viewing and Critical Appreciation.

The workshop was conducted for all the students of department. Learning about film viewing and critical appreciation is quintessential for students of Journalism and Mass Communication. As, this in turn deepens the characters, conflicts, and theme of film making it more real or significant to the viewer. While initially developing and implementing skills of analytical viewing are difficult. With practice one will be able to analyze an entire move and describe how viewers find meaning in a film. Also, one can develop their own personal criteria for analyzing film. After reaching these goals the viewer will not only be able to enjoy the film emotionally but also intellectually.

Techniques employed by filmmakers at first may be difficult to comprehend, but once understood they will add significant value to the film.

The workshop was organised for all the students of Journalism and Mass Communication department.
