Report on Workshop “Media Language and Writing”

The department of Journalism and Mass Communication of IIS (Deemed to be University) organized a two days workshop on “Media: Language and Writing” on 7th & 8th December, 2020. The workshop was organized toenhance the writing skills of students in respect with language aspect of writing. The keynote speaker of the workshop was Shri Prem Prakash, Senior Journalist, Jansatta, Noida, Uttar Pradesh.

Shri Prem Prakash is a Writer, Poet, a Journalist and has been working in the field of Journalism since 1992. He formally started working as a Journalist in the year 1999 with Jansatta, and has also worked with ‘Sahara Samay’, ‘National World’ and ‘News Trust of India.’ During the early decades of his Journalism journey he has done abundant conceptual column writings and has also written for certain topical issues. He has won many awards in the field of Journalism such as Award for Creative Journalism at Bihar Media Conclave in 2018, Vishnu Prabhakar Journalism Award in 2017, Indian Plan Award in 2016, and  Prabhash Joshi Memorial Award to name a few.

Shri Prem Prakash commenced the workshop by discussing the usage of Hindi language in various fields of Journalism and tried to make the students understand what importance does Hindi language hold irrespective of the medium (Electronic, Print and Web) that you are working with. He further added that whether it’s the field of Advertising, Public Relations or News Anchoring, both the oration and the written aspect of understanding the Hindi language is to be given equal importance. Shri Prem Prakash also explained as to how Hindi Language is a more clear and right way to express our views correctly and what all things are required to be kept in mind while writing essays, stories or poem in Hindi, which remain common in all forms of writing.

On Day 2, he critically analyzed various written pieces of the students after their learning from Day 1 and suggested all the necessary changes which were required in the respective pieces and made the session interesting and informative by sharing his experiences. The workshop proved to be very informative and knowledge enhancing for all the students. The workshop ended with a question answer round.
