Spotting Fake News and Misinformation in the Digital Age

 

The Department of Journalism and Mass Communication, IIS (deemed to be University) organised a webinar on the topic of ‘Spotting Fake News and Misinformation in the Digital Age’ on Thursday, November 19th, 2020. The resource person for the webinar was Prof. Umesh Arya, Dena & Chairman, Faculty of Media Studies, Guru Jambeshwar University of Science and Technology. The webinar was organized on the platform of Google Meet.

Prof. Arya talked about the problem of the information overload in today’s era. He also discussed about various fake news being circulated through various social media platforms and how it is a punishable offence under various sections of Indian law. Prof. Arya shared various tips and apps useful to spot and combat fake news. Students also participated in the quiz shared by Prof Arya during the webinar.
