Objective of the workshop/seminar/activity: The primary objective of the visit was to provide students with practical exposure to the processes involved in newspaper production. It aimed to help students bridge the gap between theoretical knowledge and the operational realities of the newspaper industry by understanding the workflow from concept to print.
Description (max 500 words): The students of IIS (Deemed to be University) had an incredible opportunity to visit the Dainik Bhaskar Print Planet on October 7, 2024. This visit, jointly organized by the Department of Journalism and Mass Communication and the Department of Multimedia and Animation, was meticulously planned to expose students to the intricate workings of a newspaper production house.
Facilitated by Mr. Ved Prakash Sharma, Assistant General Manager (AGM) of Production at Dainik Bhaskar, the visit provided students with first-hand insights into how one of India’s leading newspapers operates.
Upon their arrival, students were introduced to the various departments integral to newspaper production, including editorial, design, pre-press, and printing. They observed highly automated printing machinery in action and gained a comprehensive understanding of how newspapers are printed in bulk at incredible speed to meet daily deadlines.
The students learned about different printing technologies, such as offset printing and the use of CMYK color models for creating vibrant visuals. The stringent quality control measures in place to ensure high print standards and timely delivery were also demonstrated.
Throughout the tour, students engaged in insightful discussions about the role of accuracy, speed, and technology in newspaper production. They witnessed how editorial and production teams work in tandem to ensure content is prepared and printed within strict deadlines while maintaining quality.
The visit concluded with a reflective session, where students shared their observations and raised questions about the operational and editorial challenges faced by the media industry.
