VIVIDHA – THE MEDIA FEST 2019

The 7th Media Fest of the IIS University - Vividha was organised by the Department of Journalism and Mass Communication on 7th &  8th January 2019 in the university campus.

The two day event commenced with the inaugural ceremony which was graced by the presence of the Chief Guest Shri Jagdish Upasane.

The inaugural ceremony began with the college prayer and  lighting of the lamp followed by the Welcome Address from the Hon’ble Vice Chancellor of IIS University, Dr. Ashok Gupta, thanking Shri Upasane for gracing the event with his presence.

A journalist with over 40 years experience in the field of journalism, Shri Upasane spoke on a wide variety of topics, ranging from the importance of cultivating news sense through the reading of newspapers to explaining how journalism serves the public interest and therefore carries a social responsibility. Despite how journalism has changed over the last 40 years and how its language as a medium has evolved, journalists, he said, remain the gatekeepers of the readers, thus fulfilling the purpose of journalism. Citing the example of our own alumnus, Palki Sharma, he emphasized the kind of example she has set in the media for all the young journalists being trained in the ranks of our University.

He concluded his speech by motivating the students towards skill development and to take up the responsibility of the media to raise for accountability in the public interest and to undertake fair journalism without any fear while keeping the morals of journalism in mind.

The college newsletter - Youth Speak - was also released by the Chief Guest on this occasion after which he was presented with a memento by our Registrar, Dr. Raakhi Gupta.

The event concluded with a vote of thanks by the HOD of Journalism and Mass Communication, Dr. Garima Shrivastva.

Ad-Mad (Advertising Designing)

Ad-Mad is an innovative game of imagination, wherein the contestants are expected to identify a jumbled brand name, create an advertisement with a distinct punchline and enact it within the stipulated time. Held on 7 January 2019, the first day of the Media Fest, under the aegis of the Department of Journalism and Mass Communication, Ad-Mad was judged by Mr. Kapil Saxena, CEO, Kalindi Advertising, Jaipur, and Ms. Bharti Devjani who is affiliated with Mercury Advertising.

A total of 10 teams from several universities participated in the event, from which 3 teams took the top three positions. The first position was awarded to the home team of the IIS (deemed to be University), while the second position went to the team from S.S. Jain Subodh P.G. College, Jaipur and the third position went again to IIS (deemed to be University).

Brainstorming (Media Quiz)

Media Quiz aimed to judge the wit, spontaneity and the presence of mind of the participants through a range of challenging and interesting rounds. Organised by the Department of Journalism and Mass Communication on 7 January 2019, the event was judged by Dr. Shilpi Rijhwani, IIS University.

The event saw participation from 10 teams from as many universities, and the winning positions went to the team from IIS (deemed to be University) leading the champions board, with the JECRC team coming in at second place and the team from S.S. Jain Sunitha P.G. College coming in at third position.

Budding Journalist (Journalistic Expressions)

The Budding Journalist event judges objectivity, news sense and facts presentation skills of the participants, who are required to ferret out significant information and composer a news bulletin out of provided matter and present it in front of the camera within the stipulated time frame. Organised on 7 January 2019, by the Department of Journalism and Mass Communication, for the Media Fest, the event was judged by Ms. Swati Vashishtha, Bureau Chief, CNN, IBN, Jaipur, and Ms. Ritu Dutta, Asst. Editor, BCCL Response, The Times of India, Jaipur.

Hosting an enthusiastic participation from 20 teams across participant institutions, the competition came to a close with the first position going to the participant from S.S Jain Subodh P.G. College, with the participants from IIS (deemed to be University) coming in at the second and third positions.

Final Cut (Film Festival)

Films have, for decades, mirrored our society. They have made us laugh and cry. 'Final Cut' provides an excellent opportunity to young film makers to showcase their talent in film making under the categories of Fiction and Non-fiction. Organised during the Media Fest, on 8 January 2019, the event was judged by Sh. Amit Sharma, Output Head, Patrika TV.

Between the two categories, and with 20 participant teams, the IIS (deemed to be University) bagged most of the golds. In the Fiction category, the top three winning positions were all taken by the home teams. In the Non-Fiction category, the first and second positions, were awarded to participants from the IIS (deemed to be University), while the third position was awarded to the team from JECRC.

Pixels (Photography Competition)

Pixels gives an opportunity to photography enthusiasts to capture the perfect moment, on the themes of Seasonality, Time Lapse and Emotions. The event was organised on 8 January 2019 by the Department of Journalism and Mass Communication during the Media Fest. The judges for the event were Sh. Sumant Sirkar, Former Photojournalist, DNA, and Dr. Tabeenah Anzum, Bureau Chief, Deccan Chronicle, Jaipur.

With 9 participants, it was a close competition, but the top positions remained within the IIS fraternity. The first position was awarded to ISIM, the second position was kept by the participant from IIS (deemed to be University), and the third position was taken by ISIM again.

RJ Mania (RJ Hunt)

Radio Jockeying, as a profession, has taken center stage in current times, with the youth looking towards it as a lucrative career option. This event, therefore, was focused on individuals taking their minute in the hot seat and showcase their RJ skills. The event was divided into three, one minute rounds - Introduction, My Style and Showcase. Held on 8 January 2019 during the Media Fest organised by the Department of Journalism and Mass Communication, the event was judged by RJ Shivangi and RJ Abhi of Red FM, Jaipur.

In a close, but friendly competition between 20 participants, the first and second positions were bagged by candidates from S.S Jain Subodh P.G. College, and the third position was taken by the IIS (deemed to be University).
