Objective: 

Course Objectives: 

This course will enable the students to understand the evolution of AIR and Doordarshan. Understand the broadcasting guidelines. Understand the development and usage of new media and online broadcasting.

Characteristics of Radio and TV as mass media; Radio and Television as a tool of Development. Characteristics of Cinema as a Mass medium. Analysis and Appreciation of Radio and TV Programmes, and Cinema.

All India Radio and its services. AM, FM, Medium and Short Wave. Privatisation-leasing out time slots (1993)—Privatization policy (2000)—Expansion of FM Radio channel. Development of Educational & Community Radio. Internet Radio: Webcast and Podcast.

Television as mass media: its effects; Code of Ethics and Broadcasting standards by NBA (News Broadcasters’ Association). Growth of Private, International, National & Regional TV Networks & fierce competition for ratings.
