Mr. Shobhit briefed the students regarding the different aspects of Photography and its application in the present media industry. He mentioned that photography is one of the new media forms that changes perception and changes the structure of society. It is actually leading the digital revolution in media today, especially with the advent of digital photography. Today’s generation rely on pictures both to understand a message and to send a message across. When we read a newspaper, for example, we look at the pictures first before reading the text, if at all. Some people just look at the pictures and read the headlines and captions, and move on to the next news story. When browsing a magazine, the images for an article leads us to understand what the article is all about. An image makes or breaks an advertising campaign as well. If the image chosen is bad, the advertisement is doomed.
He also explained the different technology used in Light Painting photography that are applied in digital media. Light painting adds an element of uncertainty, a touch of the experimental. It demands creativity, is short on predictability. Its an adventure, and its fun. Light painting results when a hand-held light source—usually a flashlight of some type—is used in a dark room or outdoors at night to illuminate a subject. When we make a light painting, our cameras on a tripod with its shutter open for a timed exposure while you walk around and illuminate parts of the scene or subject with the light. He also displayed some of his work that are used in different advertisements and also explained the tools and techniques applied in the art of light painting.
