International webinar on Global Media Scenario

The Department of Journalism and Mass Communication of IIS (deemed to be University) has organized a one-day international webinar on the topic “Global Media Scenario”, on Saturday, April 3rd, 2021. People from media fraternity around the world namely Maria Valeria Capisano, Communication Manager, AGUAS DEL NORTE, Argentina; Mimoza KOCIU, Media Advisor of the High Inspector of Justice in Albania; Tinymaghul, Program Director at SOROS foundation, Kyrgystan and Rajesh Sundaram, Editorial Consultant were the speakers in the webinar.

The Webinar was organized to acquaint the students with the global media’s ongoing scenario and trends. Dr. Shipra Mathur, Advisor, Dept. of JMC and moderator of the webinar apprised the participants with the media scenario of India and the challenges faced by the Indian media. Miss Tinymaghul from Kyrgyzstan was the first guest speaker of the webinar. She discussed about the concept of investigative journalism and how her country was successful in breaking the control of the government which restricted the freedom of press.

Miss Mimoza Kociu from Albania discussed about the right to freedom of speech and expression and how well do people try to exhibit this right whenever required. Ms Maria Valeria Capisano from Argentina shared about the cooperative media models and how social media and its tools play an important role in communicating with the masses. She further added the challenges that have been faced by the media to become liberal and free in her country.

The last speaker of the session was Mr. Rajesh Sundaram from India who spoke about the various opportunities that the Indian media provides to its citizens such as citizen journalism, which has been a platform for the citizens to be a part of the media. The role of media in rural reporting was also highlighted by Mr. Sundaram. He also discussed as to how self censorship has helped Indian media to grow.

The session concluded with the closing dialogues from all the speakers where several points about the importance of Journalistic Influence and rise of women leaders in journalism were raised. Dr. Aastha Saxena presented the Vote of Thanks at the end.

A total of 60 participants from different universities took part in the webinar.
