Objective: 

This course will enable students to:

  • Understand Agriculture Economy, Contemporary Debates and Information World
  • Gain knowledge about Agriculture Journalism in India, diffusion process and theories
  • Have an insight about Farm communication as different from field journalism, Information and Opinions, Audience responses 
  • Observe information transfer process of farm practices and policies, agriculture policies and crop safety measures

Rural India and Information Access

Rural population and exposure to media channels, popular mode of communication for policy related information and content consumption

Unit II: 
Agriculture Journalism

Understanding Agriculture economy, contemporary issues and information needs of farmers. Agriculture journalism and its status in India

Unit III: 
Agro Programming

Agriculture programming, new formats, innovations, audience surveys, researches and feedback processes

Unit IV: 
Diffusion Theories

Development and Change theories, Roger’s two step flow, Walter Lippman - Public Opinion, Public broadcasting andPolicy advocacy through media

Unit V: 
Farm Policies

Agriculture policies and surveys in India, shift in policies in past five years, crop losses and compensation schemes
