A Three Day National Science Film making Workshop was inaugurated at The IIS University in joint collaboration with Vigyan Prasar, Department of Science and Technology. On the occasion of Journalism Day, The IIS University in joint collaboration with Vigyan Prasar, Department of Science and Technology, Government of India inaugurated a Three Day Science Film Making Workshop. 65 participants from all over India will learn the basics of film making.
Workshop Convener Dr Garima Shrivastava gave the welcome address.
In the inaugural speech Dr. C. M. Nautiyal, Senior Science Communicator said that films are a profound medium to aware basic science. Through films the general masses can have a know how of science around us. He said media has power to stir masses and it is with the help of media general science issues can be taken up to turn into good science films.
Nimish Kapoor, Head, Science film’s division, Vigyan Prasar, and workshop convener told the young audience that filming is no longer limited as an art but is also an important tool that helps common man understand science and its importance. He explained the whys and how’s of science film making while stressing on the importance of avoiding jargons and adding a socio emotional appeal. In his opinion every film made ought to suit a particular target audience.
Gurmeet Sapal, Environmentalist and Senior Science Film Maker briefed about the compositional elements and visual language along with the basics of videography. He also shared his journey of film making during the inaugural function while Ritesh Taksande, Film Trainer on the occasion said that films connect with the masses and language of films is a language of common man . If science is told through camera it will gain popularity.
Dr Ashok Gupta ,Vice Chancellor ,The IIS University in his inaugural speech said that the three workshop will develop an approach of film making towards a good cause. The participants will be benefitted under the guidance of experienced film makers.
The main objective of the workshop is to teach the participants varying from students to film makers from all over India the power of Visual communication in the field of Science and technology.
The three day workshop will orient the participants to the best practices and production techniques in the arena of science and environment film making. Participants will be introduced to the grammar and techniques of science film making, conceptualization, production and post-production techniques, selection of relevant themes as well as issues to communicate through films.
