On October 9, the Department of Journalism and Mass Communication of the IIS University organised a workshop on Photojournalism for the under and post graduation students of the department. Mr. Purushottam Diwakar, a Photo Journalist of the India Today newspaper held the workshop. Along with sharing his personal experience and expertise, he managed to give the students an insight on how should a photo journalist think and act, in ways that can make him stand different from others.
He reflected upon the idea of presenting unique things uniquely in front of the audience. He taught the students how 'news' and 'information' differ from each other. He stated the importance of having an impact on the society with the photos presented in front of them. The students learnt the necessity of short captions on pictures to make them more impressive and effectual. Mr. Diwakar made the workshop all the more intriguing when he showed his own work in the field since 1998.The workshop was concluded with the statement that a Photo Journalist is a one man army, and must let every picture tell its own story.
